Captain’s Charity Day for F.A.M.A and Triple A
Santa Maria each year offers the course for various charity events and without doubt the most successful of these is the annual Captain’s Charity Day. The Charities this year are F.A.M.A and Triple A which are very active animal protection and welfare organisations.
This year 11,288 €uros were raised. Organiser of the event, Pat Reynolds reflected on the day: “This fantastic amount has been achieved thanks to the generosity of our members, friends, associates and local companies who have supported us. Thank you all for being so generous. From March donations started arriving and continued to arrive until Sunday, the day of the event. My thanks also to Santa Maria Management for donating all green fees on the day. It was well supported by 93 players and 130 for the afternoon lunch. Each charity selected by the captain will recieve 5,644€ and will be announced in the local newspapers. Finally, thanks to my Sunday helpers – Sheila, Chrissie, Margot, Marion, Dierdre, Hannah, Glenys, Tricia, Maxine, Tracey, Dean and Chris. I could not have done this without you! Thanks also to Nick & Ali for their help & support over the last 4 months.”
After the golf, lunch and auction the prize giving took place. Roger Samways took the men’s first prize with 42 points, one ahead of Gary O’Neill’s 41. In the ladies catagory Carol du Toit was the winner with 37 points, two better than second place Cora Hofstead. To see photos from the presentation click the link to the gallery below.
